2024

Workshop in Ethiopia

On May 30, 2024, Haramaya University in Ethiopia hosted a workshop.  It focused on the resilience of onsite sanitation facilities and the emission of GHGs from these facilities.

To enhance the discussion, the organizers invited participants from various federal government offices, regional bureaus, and international organizations.  Specifically, officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Water and Energy, along with representatives from the Health Bureau, Water and Energy Bureau, and the Water and Sewerage Authority, took part in the workshop. Additionally, representatives from the regions of Harai, Oromia, Dire Dawa City, and Somali participated. Furthermore, international organizations, including the GGGI and the World Health Organization (WHO), also attended to contribute their insights. Read more about this workshop 

Symposium on “Science for Sustainable Development”

The École Polytechnique de Thiès organized the 3rd edition of the symposium on “Science for Sustainable Development” from January 19 to 20, 2024.

The symposium aims to connect professionals and academics to discuss how science can help tackle today’s economic, social, and environmental challenges. It is part of the yearly scientific events hosted by École Polytechnique de Thiès (EPT). This symposium is particularly relevant to Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, as the region is experiencing a technological innovation boom and is in need of sustainable development solutions.  Read more about his event

Workshop on climate change and sanitation in Kathmandu

Kathmandu University organized a three-day workshop on climate change and sanitation from March 20-22, 2024. In attendance were over 50 participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Water Supply, the Ministry of Forest and Environment, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, and the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management. Additionally, numerous experts from NGOs/INGOs, as well as academicians and researchers, joined the program. Read more about this workshop

2023

The SCARE team traveled to Brisbane to present two papers at the WASH and Water Futures Conference in Brisbane, Australia. The event ran from February 13-17, 2023. The first paper was led by Guy Howard from Bristol. Prativa Proudel, from Kathmandu University, presented the second paper.  In addition, the team participated in a training event on GHG emission assessment, which was led by Miller Alonso Camargo-Valero from Leeds. Furthermore, Guy Howard and Juliet Willets from UTS also contributed to a training event on resilience monitoring in collaboration with UNICEF.
